NATIONAL ACADEMIES 15-06 U.S. Water Cleanup
Program Needs More Science
June
15 -- Despite three decades of progress in controlling discharges
from wastewater treatment plants and industry, pollution from other
sources is jeopardizing water quality and the ability of states to
achieve further progress. A new National Academies' report calls for
a science-based approach to improve a federally mandated program
requiring states to clean up U.S. lakes and rivers.

NATIONAL ACADEMIES 17/06/04 National Research Effort Needed to
Secure Water Supply
June 17 -- The United States should make a new
commitment to water resources research to confront the increasingly
severe water problems faced by all parts of the country, says a new
report from the National Academies' Water Science and Technology
Board. A new mechanism is needed to coordinate water research
currently fragmented among nearly 20 federal agencies.
